Texture with velvet

I made the last bags from velvet.

I didn't transfer the pattern onto velvet ! :)
I printed it on paper, I made the sandwich and laid the paper on it and I stitched through paper . The sandwich was too thick so the thread broke often :(

The texture is nice and despite of the problems I think I can do this again !

It took me a lot of time to fill this area with pebbles !

I even pieced velvet ! For the first time, it was a nightmare !
If you ever want to piece something from velvet, cut larger pieces.
For example, if you want to add borders to a square (like I did), cut the borders longer than the square. Stitch the pieces together then adjust the length of the border.

My stock of velvet is finished now ! This is a printed velvet, I didn't applique anything on it !

  3. I love the fabric. I don't think I have seen such beautiful printed velvet here. I can only remember black printed velvet. Lovely bags.

  8. These are so lovely Geta. Its funny because I brought some lovely lilac velvet yesterday with a view to quilting it. I thought I might just use a stabiliser and omit the batting to reduce the bulk. There wont be much texture though.

  11. The bags are gorgeous. Working with velvet - especially piecing - can be difficult, but you show its well worth the effort.
