George Enescu ( 1881- 1955), the best known Romanian composer was violinist, pianist, conductor and teacher.



Gheorghe Zamfir (born 1941) is a pan flute musician who has received 120 golden and platinum disc awards and sold over 40 million albums . He is widely known as "Zamfir, Master of the Pan Flute".

A different bowl

I finished it yesterday and I love it !
I made it in a different way than the one posted in this tutorial.

I love the wavy edges.Because I made it with a large bottom, it looks rather like a deep plate than a bowl.
Of course, it's totally useful: too pretty to be filled !

L-am terminat ieri si ce-mi place ! L-am facut in alt mod decat cel din acest tutorial.
Imi plac marginile valurite. Pentru ca i-am facut un fund cam mare, arata mai degraba ca un platou adanc decat ca un bol .
Bineinteles, e total inutil: prea frumos pentru a fi umplut !

Life is so good with me... I am married for over 15 years with the best husband in the world, I have a wonderful family.
Beside these, since 8 years ago I do all the day long what I most love to do : quilting ! I am a lucky girl ! Probably there are so many women in the world that love to quilt but don’t have enough time to do that !

I am so grateful ! And this is a sign of my gratitude: a small sample of my shadow trapunto quilts I want to give to one of my readers! As you know, I love this technique !
For those who don’t know how this little quilt is made: the top layer is organza, the white motifs are made from batting and under these two layers there are other three layers ( like in a normal quilt ).

Viata e asa buna cu mine ! Sunt casatorita de peste 15 ani cu cel mai sot din lume, am o familie minunata. In plus, de peste 8 ani, cat e ziua de lunga, fac ceea ce imi place cel mai mult sa fac: quilting ! Sunt o norocoasa ! Probabil sunt atatea femei in lume care adora quiltingul dar nu au suficient timp sa quiltuiasca !

Sunt foarte recunoscatoare vietii ! Si iata un semn al recunostintei mele: aceasta mostra de quilt shadow trapunto pe care vreau s-o ofer cadou unuia dintre cititorii mei. Dupa cum stiti, imi place mult aceasta tehnica.
Stratul de deasupra este organza, motivele albe sunt din vatelina, iar sub ele se afla alte 3 straturi (ca la orice quilt).

The little quilt is 11.5” x 11.5” (29.5 x 29.5 cm).

I didn’t have enough fabric to make bias binding so I used a straight binding. Because of that, the edges tend to lift up and give the quilt this nice look !

N-am avut material suficient sa croiesc bindingul pe bie, asa ca l-am croit drept. Din cauza asta, marginile tind sa se ridice si dau quiltului un aspect foarte frumos.

Trapunto pillows

Back to my first love: trapunto.
I love to make trapunto on shinning fabrics (like this taffeta). The motifs are emphasized by the shine of the fabric and I don't need to use thick batting.

This is not "the surprise' from the previous post ! Coming soon !

Texture...more texture...

A few years ago I didn't think that I will ever quilt a fabric like this:

Acum cativa ani nu-mi inchipuiam ca o sa quiltuiesc un material ca acesta:

But I changed my mind: so what if this isn't 100% cotton fabric ? What if it is a crepe fabric ? The more texture...the better, so I quilted this ... I even pieced this ( just a little !) ...

Dar m-am razgandit: si ce daca nu e material 100% bumbac ? Ce daca e creponat ? Cu cat mai multa textura, cu atat mai bine, asa ca l-am quiltuit... chiar l-am si pisuit (doar un pic !)...

and I made a few pillows (I am sorry for these bad pictures, I took them late in the night using flash):

si am facut cateva perne (pacat ca am facut poze asa proaste, noaptea tarziu, cu blitz...) :

I started with "more texture" but I finished with "more quilting":

Am inceput cu multa textura si am terminat cu mult quilting:

Don't avoid a gorgeous fabric just because it isn't 100% cotton ! Maybe you will not make a king size quilt from it, but you still can make beautiful and unique pillows or small quilts.

Nu ocoliti o bucata superba de material, doar pentru ca nu e bumbac 100%. Poate ca n-o sa faceti din el un quilt foarte mare, totusi se pot face perne (sau quilturi mici) minunate si...unice !

A quilt for my mother

Today we have celebrated the birthday of my mother.
I made for her this quilt. Because we live in the same house, I could not hide the quilt from her. She saw the quilt as I worked on it, but I told her it is for the mother of a friend.

Astazi am sarbatorit ziua de nastere a mamei.
Am facut pentru ea acest quilt. Cum locuim in aceeasi casa, n-am putut sa ascund quiltul de ea. L-a vazut in timp ce lucram la el, dar i-am spus ca e pentru mama unei prietene.


In the last days she said to us: "I hope you will not spend money for a gift for me. I have all I need ". Well, we didn't spend money at all: all the fabrics were from my stash !
While I was working on it, she said to me: "This is the most beautiful quilt you ever made !".
I know she loves bold colors so I was lucky having these fabrics in my stash.

In ultimele zile ne-a spus: "Sper ca nu cheltuiti bani pe un cadou pentru mine. Am tot ce imi trebuie". Ei, n-am cheltuit bani, toate materialele au fost din rezerva mea !
In timp ce lucram la el, imi spunea: "Acesta e cel mai frumos quilt pe care l-ai facut vreodata !".
Stiam ca ii plac culorile intense, asa ca am fost norocoasa ca am avut aceste materiale.

I don't know where I saw for the first time the block used in this quilt, but I am in love with this pattern. It offers so many possibilities ! I love the floating squares !

Nu stiu unde am vazut prima oara blocul folosit in quilt, dar m-am indragostit de acest model. Ofera atatea posibilitati. Si ce imi plac patratele din centru care parca plutesc !

The center of the block is a kaleidoscope square. Every patch is quilted, as this quilt will be intensively used :)

Centrul blocului e format dintr-un patrat kaleidoscope. Am quiltuit fiecare bucatica, quiltul va fi intens folosit :)

The quilt was the gift from all her four daughters:

Pretty little things

A few days ago I discovered Arlette's blog, full of great tutorials (thank you, Arlette !) and lovely fabric flowers and yo-yos. Very inspired by her work, I started making these:

Acum cateva zile am descoperit blogul Arlettei, plin cu tutoriale bune, yo-yo si flori din textile.
Inspirata de munca ei, m-am apucat sa fac aceste flori:

Can you belive that in 8 years of making quilts, this is the first time I made yo-yos ? Of course, the reason of that is I hate to stitch by hand. But I love these wonders.
I can't find in our shops ric-rac, so I made my own:

Puteti sa credeti ca in 8 ani de cand fac quilturi, acum e prima data cand fac un yo-yo ? Desigur, motivul e ca urasc sa cos de mana. Dar imi plac aceste minunatii, cu siguranta am sa mai fac.
N-am gasit ric-rac la noi in magazine (doar auriu si argintiu), asa ca mi-am facut eu:

Confectionarea acestor flori poate da usor dependenta :)

and a new way to spend my money: on buttons (I can't resist to their colors).
