Another surprise for a friend

I made this colorful little piece for my friend Mary.
She makes wonderful quilts. I am in love with her scrap quilts and I admire her patience in making difficult things, like this quilt.

Do you remember this table runner ? I loved so much that multicolored fabric. This type of fabric is my first option for background.

This little piece measures about 10".

This design remind me of the reason I started making shadow trapunto quilts: the possibility to make them look like a lace. With this thing in my mind I designed this quilt and this quilt.

Mary, as well as Lucia loved their little pieces. So I am happy !

A summer bag

I made it from the fabrics I bought last week.

How I wish to match it with a skirt or a pair of pants made from the same fabric. But I don't have enough patience to sew a skirt ( I have patience to cut batting away for 2 weeks but not to sew a skirt for a few hours ).
Since I discovered quilting I hate to sew clothes. But this is a good thing, where I could store so many clothes ? My house is full of quilts !

Do you see ? This is a new pattern, I made for the first time the bottom and the sides of the bag from different fabrics ( a little more work...).

I am so proud that I finally made this type of handles (I love them !):

Have a nice weekend ! I count the days left until we will see Depeche Mode in concert. Just three weeks away...

A surprise for a friend

I made this little piece for Lucia- a special friend from Brazil.

In the last years I saw on TV a few great Brazilian telenovelas ( "The Clone" was one of them ). And now, "Sinha Moca" is the joy of my every weekend. So I was so happy to meet Lucia !

Though she traveled a lot she never saw snow so I sent her a wreath of snowdrops ! I hope it will cool the atmosphere of the hot summer days !

I can't remember the exact size of it : about 11" square .
It was a pleasure to make it !

Fabrics for bags

Some of you asked me where I found the denim I used for my latest bags. Well, we didn't have here quality cotton fabrics for quilting but there is in my town a shop with gorgeous fabrics for clothing.
Last week I found these pieces of denim (it is not the same quality as the denim used for jeans but it is still a good fabric for making bags):

The fabric below is not denim but I could not resist to these color combinations so I bought them:

And I bought this heavy cotton from Ikea. So far I have never used this type of fabric, I hope the bags will turn out nicely.

If you are looking for fabrics for bags, take a look in the stores that have fabrics for interior decorating. You might have a nice surprise !

Have a great week !

The bags obsession continues

This time I made two bags from denim.
The white one is irresistible...

This type of handles requires so much fabric...

Bags Obsession

I made other two bags using a printed fabrics (I didn't applique those flowers !).
The fabric is similar with the one used for making this bag and these pillows - just another color scheme. Unfortunately, I used the last piece of fabric...

Pretty little things II

Here in Romania we are happy with simple things, like the possibility to buy ric-rac from our shops :)

I made a few flowers,

then a few little purses.

I combined the flowers made using the tutorial from Betz White with yo-yos,

I added piping,

and I made plaited handles for the first time :

It was fun to make them !
My sister Oana saw them and said : "I want to be a little girl again" ! I would like this, too !

Quick and easy quilt - Tutorial

I made this quilt for my mother's birthday. It took me just 4 days to piece it and quilt it.
This is an easy project for a beginner quilter and a very quick quilt for a skilled one.

I made the sketch using Electric Quilt. I love Electric Quilt. You can scan your fabric, import them in the program and see how your quilt will look like even before you cut a single piece of fabric.

Quilt size: 83.5" x 95.5"
Number of blocks = 6 x 7 = 42
Finished block size: 12" x 12"
Borders 1 and 3 (finished width) : 2"
Border 2 (finished width): 1.75"
I didn't have enough fabrics for borders
so I made mine without borders.
_______________________________
This is the block:

The placement of blocks (row #1 and row #2 then repeat them) :

A variation in the placement of fabrics,

will produce a different quilt.
Choose the design you like more:

Block piecing
You can use a plain square in the center of the block or a Kaleidoscope square.

For a better look, variate the size of the center square (well, I did that because I didn't have enough fabric but it was a clever option !).

There are so many posibillities:

Have fun !

Would you like to try something new ?

I did finish with the bowls

These are the last ones, I think.

Shadow trapunto looks gorgeous on these bowls, but they require a lot of work...

On this pink bowl I made a lot of mistakes, finally it looks good and I like the double-stitched bottom.

Cutting the slits:

A flat or a deep bowl ? It depends of how large you cut the slits and how large the bottom will be.
And a few "kaleidoscope bowls".
They don't need to be filled: they are already filled with daisies, pansies or tulips :)

And "the cherry on the top of the cake": stitches done with variegated thread ( if you have the heart - ):

And just for fun :

It was fun, fun, fun...
