My first quilted bag

Browsing through my computer, I found pictures of my very first quilted bag.
I made it in March 2007.

I appliqued fusible bias tape onto a black background. The bias is wide (I think it is 1 inch) and I appliqued it very quickly.

At that time it seems that I didn't like it too much, since I made the next bag after two years !
I did not use it until now, I think it is stored somewhere !
It is funny, now, after I have made a lot of bags, I think it is not so bad !

The beautiful lady in the background is my other passion: the singer Mylene Farmer !

Trapunto quilts

My adventures with shadow trapunto started a few years ago with ...trapunto.
These are a few quilts I made in the last years.

Sometimes I stitch the motifs using a zig-zag stitch and a variegated thread.

One thing I don't like about trapunto is trimming that thick batting.

It seems that the trapunto motifs are enhanced by light colored fabrics.

or shining fabrics (like this taffeta).

These are the blocks of a table runner.

Other pillows

Here I make trapunto under appliques.

A New Bag

I think you can say I am obsessed with bags. Soon I will have more pictures of bags on my blog than pictures of quilts ! But I have an excuse, it is still summer !

Tomorrow is the birthday of a friend and I made this "Kitty Bag" for her (you guessed right, her name is Kitty !).
She loves my bags and I wanted to make her a unique bag so I modified the pattern of my favorite bag.

It is not quilted at all so it was a very quick project.
The fabric is thick enough and I didn't use interfacing.

These are two individual pockets.

I hope she will like it !

Have a nice weekend,
Geta

Texture with velvet

I made the last bags from velvet.

I didn't transfer the pattern onto velvet ! :)
I printed it on paper, I made the sandwich and laid the paper on it and I stitched through paper . The sandwich was too thick so the thread broke often :(

The texture is nice and despite of the problems I think I can do this again !

It took me a lot of time to fill this area with pebbles !

I even pieced velvet ! For the first time, it was a nightmare !
If you ever want to piece something from velvet, cut larger pieces.
For example, if you want to add borders to a square (like I did), cut the borders longer than the square. Stitch the pieces together then adjust the length of the border.

My stock of velvet is finished now ! This is a printed velvet, I didn't applique anything on it !

The last days of my giveaway

I want to remind you that there are only two days left until the end of the giveaway on my blog. You still have a chance to win one of these three quilts or a shadow trapunto e-book.

You can find out details of my e-book here.
Details of the giveaway here.

I am so happy because it seems my book is helpful and well written! I hoped this from the beginning but how wonderful it is to receive confirmations!
If you want, you can read some testimonials here.

Today I will prepare the prizes for the giveaway. I have to stitch the labels on the back of the quilts. I always do this thing in the very last moment, I didn’t learn the lesson of labeling too well…
I printed the labels on my inkjet printer as long as my permanent markers are not so permanent (?) and my quilts will be washed someday….

I will send to the winners of the quilts even a piece of organza and a sample of the batting I use in my shadow trapunto quilts, I hope this will be helpful and they will be glad.

Even me I am excited about the drawing, I think you are, too. I am anxious to know where and to whom I will send my quilts and who will read and learn from my ebook !

If you didn’t enter the giveaway yet, get your chance !
THANK YOU ALL who already entered !
Gook Luck Everyone !

The FAVORITE bag

In the last months my sister Oana wanted badly a new textile bag but I didn’t find time to make her one until this week.
This is her new bag! Oana loves it! I am rarely entirely happy with the things I make! And I can’t believe that I don’t find anything to criticize at this bag.

I love its shape! And the size is perfect!

I especially love the exterior pockets with easy access. There was a time when I sewed clothes myself and I am happy that I remembered how to sew those pockets.
I sewed for the first time an exterior zippered pocket! It is not sewn as perfect as I wanted but I have an excuse: I don’t have a zipper foot !
I don’t know why I have not ordered some feet for my sewing machine, yet. I have only three for my machine: for free motion quilting, 1.4 inch foot and a buttonhole foot.

The bag is not quilted at all. I made it using the heavy cotton canvas I bought from Ikea.

Do you like this purse ? I am crazy about it !
I have two more sisters, I will be busy soon...

Don't forget about my giveaway !
There is still time to enter !

Velvet

A few days ago I quilted for the first time velvet !

Quilted velvet has such a nice texture. There is no need to use thick batting to get this texture !

This one below is made from a lightweight flannel.

It's summer, I still make bags...
Come back, I am finishing the most beautiful bag I have ever made...
