Preview...

I just finished the cutest little purse I have ever made! I can’t show it yet, but I am so excited about it. It 's for a little girl. I keep it on my arm while I am walking through my house and looking in the mirror! So darn cute, you will see !

All the last week I stitched bags and now I am writing tips for you ! Practicing is the best teacher!

While I was stitching one of the bags I heard a strange noise, as if the needle hits something. I removed the needle plate and I saw that the needle hits the hook and I can’t sew anymore.
At first I was scared and I thought that I have to call my mechanic to repair the machine. After I calmed down I changed the needle, the noise disappeared and I could sew again.

The reason of this issue was the bent needle. While stitching through thick fabrics the needle could bend. The same thing could happen while stitching over pins (I have this bad habit).

So, even if a sewing machine can stitch but it is too noisy or there is an unusual noise while stitching, maybe the machine is screaming to us: Change the needle!!
I must admit, since I can't cross the street and buy some needles, I do that only it is absolutely necessary !

I can't finished a post without some pictures ( wow, who would read a post without pictures??).
So, please forget about my mistakes in English and look at the flowers I made for my bags…

Wow, this flower is nice but my hand stitching is just pathetic…

and I put this one on that cute little purse...

My husband's quilt

Thank you for the nice messages you sent me, I am feeling better...

I am glad I can finally show you the quilt (well, the top) I made for my husband.
Here is, I love it !!! My husband loves it too.
I used a few suggestions you kindly offered me in a previous post... thank you !!!

I managed to make it in time for February 14.
It measures 80" X 90" ( 2 x 2.25 m ) and has 42 12" blocks.

From this fabric I made kaleidoscope blocks, in two sizes...

then I added strips and here are the final blocks...

I wasted a little fabric ( I did that for the first time !), but surprisingly I did not feel guilty...

I used this fabric for borders since it did not find its place in the pieced blocks ...
I bought it special for this project so I just had to use it. I am glad I have enough for binding.

I like the effect produced by the white strips...

and I am crazy about this toast fossil fern fabric...

I did not pay attention at all where I placed the green and the blue blocks, I was in such a hurry to finish piecing before the arrival of my husband. I am not entirely happy with this setting but what is done is done !

I worked two days on it but I did not feel too good, normally piecing would take less time....

I have worries too...
  1. I did not pre-wash the fabrics, I did not want to distord the striped fabric. But I usually make a dense quilting and I hope there will not be any problem.I never pre-wash the fabric I use for kaleidoscope, but this time I did not pre-wash any fabric.
  2. I don't know when I will quilt it...I hope I will do that before his birthday, in August !
Do you like this quilt ? I will write a tutorial in a few days...

Wintery scenes

Here are a few pictures I took two weeks ago. This wonderful place, one hour away from where I live, is Fundata. It's considered one of the highest (if not the highest) settlements in Romania. Altitude varies between 1300-1400 meters (4200 -4600 feet).

Click on pictures for a larger view.

Ten days ago the temperature lowered until -28 degree Celsius( -18.4 degree Fahrenheit) in the night.
I took this picture in the middle of a sunny day and the temperature was only (-11 degree Celsius = 12.2 degree Fahrenheit). I hope this conversion is correct.

The place is practically surrounded by mountains ( Bucegi and Piatra Craiului ).
I think it is one of the most beautiful and quiet place in my country.

It is as beautiful in the winter as it is in the summer.
I hope I will go there this summer. It would be so nice to stay on grass and cut away batting for some quilts...

If someday I would have guests from abroad, we would definitely visit this place.
Enjoy the pictures !

A special giveaway

This giveaway is closed now. Thank you all who participated.

I couldn’t help myself and last week I made these pockets. Just because I love the flower fabric !

I want to give you these pockets.
This will be a special giveaway ! It is my appreciation for those of you who have my blog in the sidebar of your blog. Thank you all for sharing my work with your readers !
Since this blog is my only connection with the quilting world, without you, I would be just a lonely quilter… For almost 6 years I was a lonely quilter...it is not too much fun…

If you have my blog in your list (or want to add it now) and want these “Pockets with Love”, leave me a message. I will randomly choose a winner in a few days.

Have a wonderful week end,
Geta
