Storing quilts...

...without creases !

This is the way I store my shadow trapunto quilts. That rod is usually used for hanging curtains.
My husband mounted it on the wall. It takes some space, but I have easy access to any quilt.

Many hanging sleeves are waiting to be hand sewn. Hopefully one of my sisters will help me !

Have a great evening (or night, or morning )!

Washing quilts

I wash all my quilts after I finish them. If a quilt is not too large I wash it by hand.
After washing, all the quilts go in the washing machine for a short cycle of spinning.
After that, if the quilt is small I lay it to dry on a flat surface.

If the surface I have is too small for the quilt, I usually hang the quilt to dry on this cardboard tube ( used by the fabric manufacturers for rolling the fabrics on it). I protect the cardboard (and the quilt) with a piece of nylon.
For bed quilts I have even a longer tube ( I brought it home from a carpet store).

I use the same tube if I want to bring my quilts somewhere. Instead of folding, I prefer to roll them.

I don’t have yet a picture, but next time I will show you how I store my shadow trapunto quilts (I don’t want creases on these quilts so I don't store them folded).
Until next time,
Happy quilting !

Beautiful fabrics

A few weeks ago I had to buy a spool of water soluble thread. But how to justify $14 shipping for just one spool of thread ? So that I ordered a few yards of fabric too and I ended up paying $29 ! Great math and great saving !

I just couldn’t resist to these fabrics from equilter.com.
These are from 'Serenity' collection by Daiwabo for E.E. Schenck.

And these are from 'Connections' collection by Paintbrush Studio for Fabri-Quilt.

I have already used some of them. I had to wash the new quilt.
After a lot of free motion quilting, I longed to quilt with walking foot so I quilted it with straight lines. Fun - but time consuming !

Enjoy the Sunday!

New bag

A few months ago we left without electricity almost 24 hours. What to do without computer and sewing machine ?
As I don't have enough patience for stitching by hand, I cut the pieces for a few new bags.
Unfortunately I don't have time to stitch them.

This is the only one I finished, my sister Oana asked me to make it for one of her friends.

This heavy cotton canvas from Ikea is fabulous for bags. Unfortunately Ikea Bucharest doesn't have too many fabrics.

Quick and easy project

1 yard of cotton fabric + 1 yard of flannel + thick polyester batting.

I quilted the sandwich following the pattern on the fabric - no marking lines.

I used the only decorative stitch I have on my machine.

A very lightweight piece, soft and puffy. Like a comforter.

Happy Friday !

A new baby quilt

I am glad you like Adelina's quilt, I hope you will like this one too. It' s for a baby boy.

I love contrasts and the quilts with light colored background are always my favorites.

I love bubbles too, so no wonder I quilted bubbles again. So nice texture - it invites you to rub your hands all over the quilt.

The white quilting looks great on dark fabrics.

I love it ! Usually I don't even finish a quilt and I am already bored of it, but I still love this one !

I think I will use the pattern again, with some variations. It's fabulous! Simple, quick, easy !

A special weekend

No picture to show you yet.
Yesterday instead of staying home and binding the new quilts (as the plan was), we (me and my husband) went to a trip to Bucharest to see Eros Ramazzotti in concert.

It was a wonderful show and he sang many of his hits. But the best thing was that we stayed in the third row in front of the stage! We attended many concerts but never saw an artist so close to us! This was a special treat!

I would like to see him some day in a concert in Italy!

Baby quilt

Delivered !

It measures 45"x45".

Initially I wanted to quilt just the background but the largest pieces left unquilted did not look nice so I had to quilt them all.

I took the pictures after the quilt was washed.

I don't use too often cotton batting, but in this way I can appreciate it even more, right ?
I love the look of the quilting and the texture of the quilt after washing.

I hope Adelina will enjoy this quilt for many years.

The back - just plain white cotton fabric.
At first I wanted to piece the backing from the same fabrics used for the front, but I cut wrong the first piece and I gave up.
And the truth is no matter how much fabric I have, every piece seams to be too pretty (and too expensive) for using on the back. I have the same problem in choosing the fabric for binding !
I have to work more to solve this problem. In the end, it's just fabric.

A New Quilt - WIP

I finished the baby girl quilt. I like it ! Very much ! It is heavy quilted, still it has much texture. Can't wait to show you, but I need time to select the pictures.

Until then, this is the new project started today. It will be a quilt for a baby boy - my future nephew !

All the blocks are already sewn.

Tomorrow a dear friend ( quilting friend, yes !) comes to visit me. No time for sewing, but I hope I will upload pictures of the baby girl quilt.
