Jewel Box Quilt

I finished piecing the top ! The quilt measures 65'' x 80'', the size I need.

I love so much this pattern, it was one of the first ones I saw on Internet when I started quilting, 10 years ago, and I always wanted to make one.
Then later I saw Eleanor Burns in a show using this pattern for making 3 quilts: a king size quilt, a wall hanging and a miniature and I fell in love again. A few weeks ago I saw this show again so here is my first Jewel Box quilt.

I am crazy about the green rows of small squares (well, not so small- 2").
But I don't like too much how I combined the fabrics for those quarter triangle squares. I tried print+print, solid+solid but I did not like those combination either. Someday I would like to make one in solid fabrics.

I always thought that I will make such a quilt in jewel colors, but these are the colors my mother loves so I did not have too many choices.
Now I am thinking that this is not the best time, but I am dying to make a smaller version (my mother needs a small piece too, she really needs it!) and a pieced miniature.

Definitely, these are not the projects I should work now...but I really want to make them!
I am not rational at all ...

I love that quilt, too! The pretty greens look like leaves of those yummy pinks and oranges of flowers. The prints make them sparkle. Lucky Mom!

Oh Geta, this is such a lovely quilt. So happy! I'm not sure... are we supposed to be rational? I hope not because I've yet to find anything rational in my quilting plans. ...I have not plans - first of all. ;)

That is the fun of quilting..working on what you WANT to rather than one you feel you SHOULD. Life is good when you can do that.
The quilt is beautiful and I like the pink squares very much. But you know I never use solids so the prints look great to me.

Such a happy, springtime quilt!! Sitting here in southeast Minnesota (USA) the view is snow, snow, and more snow (storm ended last night around midnight). We all look forward to those warm breezes and flowers that typify the next season. Lovely work and definitely bears repeating in other sizes! Doreen

Beautiful quilt! I think the quarter triangle squares will grow on you, they are great. Don't you just love it that you can't be rational about your passion?
