It is great to test new designs on miniature quilts. As I don't make miniatures often, I almost forgot how quickly a quilt can be made. And, if there are lessons to be learned, then it is great to learn them without too much work/wasting/regrets.
I am not fond of fusible web, I don' t like stiff patches. But fusible web has some advantages. I printed the templates on it and my applique pieces were perfect. If you want to make raw edge applique, like I did, then it also prevents fraying. So I thought that fusible web is a good idea for my wall hanging miniature.
Under these colored patches, there is trapunto. After washing the quilt, I realized that it is not a good idea to use fusible web and trapunto in the same quilt. Trapunto should be puffy, and here my patches are stiff.
The look is not affected too much, because of the small size, the quilt looks great, but definitely, I will never ever use trapunto and fusible web in a large quilt.
I wanted badly to quilt the whole quilt with straight stitches and walking foot, but my brain did not listen to me! But I am happy with the result.
Scrappy, wide binding...
I love the white backing...
The quilt measures 20''x20'' and the center design is 16'' square.
Have a great weekend,
Geta
